About Us
Shelton Legal Services is a small, full-service law firm geared to serving individuals and small businesses throughout Michigan with affordable, quality legal help. Our focus is not on scoring huge accounts and putting in as many billable hours as we can; instead, we focus on what we can do to help our clients meet their goals, whatever those might be.
The firm was founded in 2005 by attorney Steven Shelton, who saw a lack of legal assistance to regular people.
“When I needed an attorney, nobody wanted to talk to me because I wasn’t rolling in cash, and the same thing was happening to my friends,” he said. “I thought that something needed to be done. I think the law should protect everyone, not just the ultra rich.”
Shelton enrolled at the nation’s largest law school, Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. He attended class full-time while working full-time, and soon rose the top of his class, graduating magna cum laude in the top ten. In addition to winning several awards for courtroom advocacy, he also earned a reputation as a scholar and advocate for his clients’ causes. In 2016, attorney Cheryl Landrum joined the firm as an associate attorney, bringing with her a decade of experience in representing clients in business-related matters, as well as her own dedication to providing top-level legal representation to clients of all backgrounds.
Now, with offices in both Fenton and St. Clair, Michigan, Shelton Legal Services serves clients throughout the state. The firm originally focused on criminal defense and Constitutional Law (especially First Amendment issues), but now provides a full range of legal services, including services related to real property (including sales, mortgages, and landlord/tenant issues), civil litigation, divorce, child custody, child abuse/neglect defense, estate planning, probate, business law, appeals, international law, and several other areas of practice.
We also provide educational materials to help private individuals understand and enforce their rights on their own. It’s all part of our mission to make the law accessible to everyone.
